Asylum Information Database: Launch of the second Annual Report
September 9, 2014 @ 10:00 am - 12:30 pm
The European Council on Refugees and Exiles (ECRE), Forum Réfugiés-Cosi, Irish Refugee Council and Hungarian Helsinki Committee are happy to invite you to the launch of the second edition of their Asylum Information Database Annual Report.
The second AIDA Annual Report presents an overview of key developments in the legal framework and practice on asylum procedures, reception conditions and detention of asylum seekers in 15 EU Member States (AT, BE, BG, CY, DE, FR, GR, HU, IE, IT, MT, NL, PL, SE, UK) while assessing the challenges for asylum seekers in those EU Member States in accessing their rights under the EU asylum acquis.
In addition, the report presents an analysis of key EU developments in the field of asylum since September 2013, date of publication of the first AIDA Annual Report, with a special focus on legislative and policy developments that impact on access to the territory and external border controls. These include the Regulation on Maritime border surveillance in the context of Frontex operations, the EUROSUR Regulation as well as the Task Force Mediterranean and national operations such as Mare Nostrum. Furthermore, the report provides an analysis of the EU’s response to the refugee arrivals resulting from the Syrian crisis in the past year and reflects on the meaning of the recently adopted strategic guidelines in the area of freedom, security and justice for the further development of the EU’s asylum and immigration policy.
The report is produced in the framework of the Asylum Information Database (AIDA) project, which aims at collecting up-to date information on asylum policies and practices in EU Member States and promoting high standards of protection at the national level during the transposition of the second phase of harmonisation.
The AIDA website is accessible here: www.asylumineurope.org. As of September the Database will cover two additional countries: Croatia and Cyprus.
