Amnesty International Concordia Presents: Human Rights and Legal Studies
The evening will feature a talk from our guest speaker Dr. Francois Larocque, who is currently an Associate Professor at the University of Ottawa. Amongst a long list of impressive accomplishments, Dr. Larcocque has clerked both at the Court of Appeal for Ontario and at the Supreme Court of Canada. He has also published in the areas of philosophy of law, Canadian legal history, civil liability, human rights and international law. Dr Larocque will be joining us to speak about human rights law and his experiences in the field with an emphasis on his work with Amnesty International. He will also be sharing his insight on study of law in Canada and abroad.
Béatrice Vaugrante, the director of Amnistie Internationale Canada, (Francophone Branch) since 2006, has also kindly offered to come speak to us. She has developed and volunteered in diverse initiatives covering questions relative to economic and social law and, to the social responsibility of companies. Areas that have flourished under her management have been: the struggle against poverty from human rights angle, and the rights of Native peoples in Canada.
