Post-Uprising Justice Administration: Transitional Justice and Hybrid Regimes in Turkey and the Middle East

The establishment of international criminal tribunals and post-conflict territorial administrations has provided an institutional framework within international law for understanding ‘transitional justice’. Yet, the concept remains ambiguous, contested, and—in its most narrow sense—pre-occupied with the output of certain institutional mechanisms designed to deal with ‘past’ abuses. This conference aims to examine the legal, political, and economic dimensions of transitional justice in the modern Middle East, using recent events in Turkey in particular to interrogate the concept of transitional justice and the relevance of international law mechanisms to post-uprising justice administration.
